Workshop on monitoring International Climate Initiative (ICI) project impact on biodiversity and developing indicators for ICI biodiversity criteria

16-18 September 2013, Bonn (Germany)

o The workshop aimed to develop example indicators and associated guidance to monitor compliance with the ICI biodiversity criteria which are under development. It will also involve other biodiversity safeguard processes.

o This workshop is part of a larger project that aimed at: incorporating biodiversity conservation criteria into the funding and evaluation guidelines of International Climate Initiative projects; and improving the integration of biodiversity issues in climate change mitigation and adaptation projects in general. The project targets forests and wetlands and is implemented by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) and the United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Center (UNEP-WCMC).

o Marion Karmann, Monitoring and Evaluation Program Manager at FSC, provided a 20 minute presentation during the workshop on “Experiences of addressing monitoring in safeguard processes” from the prospective of FSC.

o WCMC has been particularly interested in accessing the set of draft monitoring indicators for biodiversity that have been developed by ForCES partners. This is a living document that is still being refined and tested through the project.
