Nepal: Training and capacity building for certification for the members of the community forest user groups, government/NGOs/ private forest holders

FPIC Training for ForCES Managers organized


A four day Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) training was organized in Dolakha district from 23 to 26 July, 2013. FSC together with ANSAB organized the training to eight participants of ForCES project from three pilot countries (Indonesia, Vietnam and Nepal). Major objectives of the course were (i) to understand the FSC standard requirements and key concepts related to FPIC, (ii) to understand the FSC FPIC Guidance Manual and the tools, processes and techniques, (iii) to be familiar with current best practices and recommendations for Access & Benefit Sharing and its application for ES certification within the FSC framework, (iii) to develop an exercise to assess individual pilot ForCES project sites against the FSC requirements and identify current compliance gaps, and finally (iv) to be comfortable explaining FSC requirements and the compliance gaps, and developing actions needed to meet the requirements. Vanessa Linforth, Social Policy Manager of FSC IC facilitated the training.
