Participation at the 6th ESP in Bali, Indonesia

26 - 30 August 2013

- Participation and booth at the 6th ESP (Ecosystem Services Partnership) annual conference.
o The 6th International ESP conference focused on the practical application of the ecosystem services concept in planning, management and decision making, and on presentations of case studies. FSC took the opportunity to present its achievements in term of carbon, water and biodiversity stewardship and monitoring, and provided insights into future challenge, such as valuation and quantification of ecosystem services in certified forests.
o CIFOR organized a session titled „Getting the balance right: challenges in integrating ecosystem services with communities and business". During this session, challenges faced by the ForCES project and solutions were shared with the audience. The audience asked whether FSC would develop an FSC+ approach and ecosystem services credits. ForCES team said that "We are considering all options for the project and still have to consult on and test the most promising ones. First step is to clarify what ecosystem services stewardship and monitoring takes for FSC certificate holders. The ESP conference, which gathered world experts, showed that ecosystem services are a subject where there is still much to understand and discover. Next year, we will focus on developing FSC guidance on ES responsible management and carbon monitoring."
o ForCES team is looking forward to attending the next ESP conference that will take place in Costa Rica in 2014.

- Ms Dita Ramadhani, WWF Indonesia project manager, participated in the 6th Ecosystem Services Partnership Conference in Bali with other ForCES partners, such as FSC and CIFOR.
